Location

Approximately 60 kilometers (37.3 miles) north of Bordeaux, Vertheuil lies within the heart of the Haut Medoc Appellation, just 5 kilometers (3 miles) north of the celebrated vineyards of Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Mouton Rothschild, bordering the nearby appellations of St. Esteph and Pauillac.  25 kilometers (15.5 miles) west of Vertheuil are some of France's finest sandy beaches along the Cote D'Argent, including Hourtin Plage, and then further south, Carcans Plage, Lacanau Plage (famous for outstanding surfing), le Porge and Cap Ferret.  Also easily accessible is nearby Lac d'Hourtin, a large fresh water lake, which is a popular destination for fishing, swimming, windsurfing, camping and boating.  Due to its mostly flat terrain and extensive network of quiet country roads, the Medoc is a popular destination for professional and amateur cyclists.  The nearby dense pine forest that borders the Atlantic coast includes an extensive network of mountain biking and hiking trails.
